Our principal business consists of the design & manufacturing of built-to-last proven cherry pitters along with service and parts supply. The Position: Cost and Inventory Accountant

Job purpose

Specializing in inventory control meticulously managing and optimizing inventory-related costs within the organization. This role involves close collaboration with plant manager to ensure accurate valuation of inventory, identify cost-saving opportunities, and contribute to efficient inventory management practices.

Duties and responsibilities

• Inventory Valuation:
  • Regularly review and analyze inventory costs, ensuring accurate and up-to-date valuation.
  • Collaborate with production teams to track and account for all inventory movements.
• Budgeting and Forecasting for Inventory:
  • Assist in the preparation of annual budgets and forecasts related to inventory costs.
  • Monitor actual performance against budgeted figures, providing insights into any deviations.
• Inventory Management:
  • Monitor and control inventory levels to optimize costs and minimize carrying expenses.
  • Implement efficient inventory turnover strategies and reorder points.
  • Work in warehouse and with production team to streamline inventory processes.
  • Manage all cycle counting and annual physical inventory
• Process Improvement in Inventory Control:
  • Identify opportunities for cost reduction and efficiency improvements in inventory management.
  • Implement best practices to enhance accuracy in tracking and reporting inventory costs.
  • Collaborate with relevant teams to address root causes of inventory-related issues.
• Inventory Reporting:
  • Generate and present regular reports on inventory costs and trends.
  • Provide insightful analysis to support decision-making regarding inventory levels and procurement strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting standards in inventory reporting.
• General Accounting/Office Management Support
  • Provide back up for all general accounting and front office management done at the plant level.   Includes, but not limited to, accounts payable, invoicing and front office management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field or equivalent experience.
• Professional certification (e.g., CPA, Certified Management Accountant – CMA) is a plus.
• Proven knowledge in cost accounting with a focus on inventory control.
• Manufacturing job-shop experience a plus.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, specifically in the context of inventory.
• Proficiency in financial software and advanced Excel skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.

Working conditions

Job is located in an office within a light duty manufacturing environment.  

Physical requirements

Job will require both periods of sitting and computer screen time, as well as the necessity to enter the manufacturing floor and warehouses.  Proper personal protective equipment is required in shop (footwear and eye protection).
